March 2 is the birthday of popular childrens’ author Theodor Geisel, otherwise known as Dr. Seuss. On his birthday, we also celebrate Read Across America day, which was established in 1998 by the National Education Association to encourage kids to get excited about reading. While the reading program itself may seem more aimed at teachers and librarians, this is a wonderful day to curl up with a book and explore all the gifts of literacy. Whether you take the time to sit with your kids and dive into one of Seuss’s classics, or whether you retreat to a coffee shop with a thick novel and a yummy pastry, make sure you crack open a book today!
