Happy Anniversary, Peanuts!

75 years ago today, the above cartoon appeared in seven newspapers across the country. From that point, it grew into a global phenomenon, beloved by millions. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang became household names.

The comic strips have always been a big part of my life, and I was excited when Fantagraphics began a project to collect and reprint every single strip ever published. Over the course of ten years, they released books that each contained two years’ worth of strips, so now the entirety of Peanuts is available. I have all of the books myself and often dip into them to enjoy the characters I’ve loved for so long.

Charles Schulz passed away mere hours before his final strip ran in the newspaper. He’s one of the few public figures whose death made me cry. Thank you, Sparky, for the many years of stories with the kids who became our friends.
